Why'd you tell us the color?

I personally think $7,000 is pretty high for a used Hyundai.

They typically do not hold their value very well.

But if those are your only options, I would definitely go w/the 2009 Sonata due to the lower mileage.
But only if the dealership will let me get it checked out first by an independent mechanic.
If they do not, then the car is a no go.

I would never pay 7Gs for a used car w/over 100,xxx + miles on it.

Have you considered some better options?
Something more reliable that will hold its value better?

A Honda or a Toyota would be a much wiser move for your money.

Hope this helps & Good luck!

Car person here. Go with the low mile one. As cars age mileage-wise, most stuff breaks, like an alternator may be designed to last 100k miles, and the timing belt needs replacing at 75k miles and so on.

Also it's not that unsafe to drive a car without an airbags, as long as you wear your seatbelt. Airbags are largely there to protect the unbelted. That's also why US airbags are larger than European airbags -- Americans have a lower rate of seatbelt use.

Op here: We paid 2k for our 2004 Hyundai sonata 6 years ago and it had absolutely no problems for 6 years. I see tons of older Hyundais on the road. We're planning on keeping our next car for 5 year's and repeating.

The Honda's and Toyotas we have been finding have very high miles, are old and dark. Most have been black. We want to buy a lighter color car as we live in humid weather. Our Hyundai has been great to us for the last 7 years. We haven't had to repair anything. Upgrading to a 2009 or 2011 would be like having a new car for us.

I guess because the blue car looks more attractive and comfortable for us. It's a newer generation.

A timing belt usually has a life of 100K or 7 years. Whichever comes first.

The color sounds really pretty.
I personally wouldn’t purchase a used Hyundai for that amount, but it seems you are just very satisfied w/Hyundais.
I think loyalty to brands is very wise.
Hopefully you will not be disappointed.

Op here: The price is 6k now and they're willing to come down in price if the Hyundai dealership says it needs repairs. My husband wants to go with this one. He's feels a bit uncomfortable buying the 2009 since it came from an auction. He also wonders if anyone tapered with the mileage.

Do you have maintenance records for both cars? If regular maintenance was recorded they will have the miles listed.
