My lab froze my embryos by putting 2 embryos in one straw and another 2 in one straw, than put the remaining 3 singlely in their own straws. I think for FET the standard is to thaw 2 (blasts) and transfer two. I am terrified of multiples so I am thinking about having them thaw the single embryos. I guess it all boils down to what grades they were when they were frozen and how your embryos were frozen? Does this makes sense. I think you and your RE will come up with the best solution. Good Luck!!

Our blasts were saved in twos (Shady Grove clinic). We did one fresh cycle - got pregnany but had a loss at 21 weeks( two blasts - twins). Another fresh cycle and pregnant (1 blast / 1 baby). We decided at 12 months to start again with FET - did two and neither worked - they only put back one each time. We did a fresh cycle again and they put back two b/c of low quality - no luck. We did another fresh cycle and decided to put back two... currently 27 weeks with twins.
Each time, the staff at Shady Grove would go over the quality and percentages with me and DH. The last set were fairly good quality and they actually recommened we only put back one. But at that point the thought of no pregnancy was harder to entertain than the thought of twins. I had decided I was done regardless of outcome of last trial. Unfortunately, they can give you some notion of quality based on factor beofre they freeze, but often the real decision comes down to the day of transfer. Good luck! |
| Sorry - measnt to say they 'can't' give a final determination until they see how they grow post freeze. |

I did a fresh IVF w/SGF with one blast and have one gorgeous 28mo DS from it. We are not ready yet to go again but thanks for the info as I lurk on this page.
Also wanted to metion www.fertilityfriend.com I lived on it when doing basal temps and during IVF. The moms in the message boards there are VERY knowledgeable and have been thru everything so its a great resource for advice and shoulder to vent to. Best of luck to everyone! |
| For our clinic and my age the fresh vs. frozen transfer success rates were statistically the same. However, we lost a significant number of embryos in the thawing process. You may want to ask your doctor about an unmedicated FET rather than a medicated one. We had good look with an unmedicated FET, which required only an HCG trigger shot. |
| OP here -- thanks for all the great responses. I just requested an appointment online with SGF to discuss doing FET and I will ask about "medicated" vs. "unmedicated." |
