Costs to Finish Basements?

50k was the estimate for 1200 sqft

65k for 1600sq ft. It included two bedrooms, bathroom with shower, wet bar and a workshop (extra outlets and cabinets). We made some changes to the suggested layout from the builder like turning the bathroom. Ours is elaborate (marble, custom cabinets, wood stairs not just carpet over cheap stairs) and we did a lot ourselves. We had plain Jane estimates of 28k just for studs and drywall, no bathroom, no flooring.

Some of these cheap costs above, I don’t believe. Or maybe they don’t have walk out basements and it’s just a family room with no windows. Or not installing heating or ac. Our family owns a construction company.

I spent $50K in 2002 for ~ 1000 sq feet. We added a bathroom (and pump), cut the concrete for a legal egress window, added 1 bedroom (with closet), cedar closet, storage under stairs, gas fireplace, beadboard, built-ins, recessed lighting in ceiling, and partial basement kitchen (2 pantries), 19 linear feet of cabinets, sink, refrigerator, microwave. Due to uneven floor, flooring materials are high end vinyl (people think it is tile) and carpet.

I already have a finished basement with bathroom and wet bar, around 1500 sq ft I think.

I’m looking to remodel the space. Move some walls around, new interior doors, new bathroom, new floors, new paint, and finish a small portion that is currently unfinished (300 sq ft).

Am I also looking at 50k to 75k?

And for moving walls and designing rooms, who do you hire? Am interior designer? Assuming I don’t want to make all of the decisions on my own.

I’m 21:47. We also had ductwork moved so that there weren’t those odd boxes in ceilings that so many basements have. And, we designed with the support posts hidden in walls. Again, I don’t like to see the support posts. We also have a ceiling fan. Keeping it on all the time keeps it from smelling like a basement. I’ll also add that we did radon testing before we spent the money.

Yes, it was expensive. Especially for the time.

I used a software program for the layout. Of course the contractor checked all of my measurements but it was detailed enough that he was able to use it to pull the permits for the job.

For the person remodeling and moving walls, give thought to whether there are support posts or plumbing hidden in the walls.
