Look at the two most populated countries in the world. Why not Mandarin and Hindi along with Spanish (not sure about French) being offered for each secondary school student starting in 7th or 8th grade? Or ASL?

Personally I would prefer they reduce class sizes for core subjects in middle school (my kid has classes that regularly reach 34 kids) before thinking about adding extra languages/ASL.

I’m all for increasing the languages and opportunities offered if it can be done. But to your point French is a very widely spoken world language, and it’s considerably easier for English speakers to learn up to a functional level than Mandarin or Hindi. In any case I wish MCPS were able to offer languages much earlier than they do (outside of immersion).
