Does anyone else hate those squares of ground beef?

I find that they are mushy. Might be OK for making meatloaf or something (I haven't tried) but doesn't work for Bolognese sauce or chili.

My son is autistic and has sensory issues, and can't stand chunky cooked beef. I use cooking gloves and use my hands when the meat is first in the pan to break it up and make sure all of the lumps are out, and once it starts to really heat up and cook, I move over to a wooden spatula.

I buy all of our grassfed beef from Wegmans and find that the consistency is the same every time. When I run out and have to buy meat from local places like Giant--even if it's grassfed--the texture is never the same.

I buy a square of ground beef from Trader Joe's. It's fine.

This thread makes me want to go vegetarian.

I am a cow. I hack off a haunch as I need it. Grind it with my molars. Super fluffy.

Best answers.

I don't know what the "square of beef" is. We don't eat much meat, but have been eating mostly venison for a while. 50# lasts about a year at our place.

We are a family of 4 and I wish they were 1.5 lbs instead of 1. Otherwise, I have no issue with them.
