Where are the new principal announcements?!

I don't want to be that person, I really don't but is anyone else underwhelmed by the qualifications of these new principals? And most of it is a game of shuffleboard...moving people from one crappy school to the next.

I think it's good when an AP moves up to Principal at a different school. That's how we got ours and it has been great. She brought a lot of DCPS-specific knowledge and relationships. An outsider would have had a much steeper learning curve.

oh wow. Garrison is so lucky. He's great. Get ready for that school to blow-up in a good way. That will become the next lottery darling pick.

I agree. We are Hardy bound this fall and I'm pretty thrilled with the hire of Mr. Cooke. He was the unanimous, top pick for the selection panel. Having sat on previous principal panels that felt perfunctory and lacking in weight, the Chancellor actually listened and gave us what we asked for. I would much rather have someone with some real DCPS experience rather than some Harvard grad that we bring in from Boston or Chicago. Having a new leader who already has some understanding of the system, the city's culture, the tensions that exist, the hurdles, the opportunities, etc. is very valuable. Mr. Cooke paid his dues at Eastern, has some legit experience in Brooklyn and has also taught in the classroom. He's going to be great.

Shenora Plenty was the 'principal in training' at our WotP elementary this past school year and she was terrific. I'm so happy for her and for the Wheatley Education Campus community.

I think that's a pretty crappy and shallow thing to say. What do you mean by "qualifications"? What in the world do you think you can actually tell about these people based on where they went to college?

A resume is all well and good, but what really matters to me is experience, willingness to work hard, understanding of the commmunity and gentrification dynamics, and innate talent. Schools and degrees are way less important.

Does anyone know where former Wheatley principal Scott Cartland is headed?

Yay for Mark Sanders for MacFarland Middle School!

Don't think this was a secret though.

Excited about Norah Lycknell joining Brent. I think she is a good fit for the school. I'm happy for Hardy MS as well. They really needed someone new and Eastern has made some progress lately. Losing Mr. Albright is a big loss for Deal.

Not the poster you're talking to, but I think that the college you attend matters quite a bit.

They don't all become principals, some become APs or go elsewhere. We had one a few years back who was just awful and the principal basically shut down any job possibilites for her. It was like she only got to do Patterson because her original school wanted to get rid of her.
