I think DC needs to find a solution to its homeless problem that has nothing to do with libraries.
I never felt safe at MLK because of so many homeless people around. And before you accuse me of being a pearl clutcher, a friend's child was grabbed by a man at MLK and I have been spit on. They need compassion and support (and access to libraries for when they want books/computers), but they do not get to take over libraries so that people do not feel safe there. |
Some need treatment and to be far from society. Some are violent schizophrenics. Before you accuse me of being another pearl clutcher, I know this firsthand. |
That's a good idea. Add lunch, or the ability for a non profit to serve them lunch or dinner at a central location during their working hours...Everyone who works gets meal plus wages. Win win. |
| But what about DC General's great development potential for mixed-use density? That's part of Mayor Bowser's vision. |
This may be the real imperative, from the standpoint of the mayor's office, to close DC General quickly. The crony developers are getting antsy. |
