Then pay for preschool or stay with a nanny. It's optional, it's school, not free babysitting. |
K is very different from PK3 lottery-wise. No chance at Peabody in PK3. Chance of Brent at K. |
Who are you to tell anyone that they can't participate in an open lottery, and what they should spend their money on? And why is it "free babysitting" just because someone only wants to stay at a school for two years? |
SHe already has Appletree on her list. It that were the case she wouldn't list them. We're just saying move them up. |
I would move LT up a bit as well. Excellent ECE program and very easy commute for you.
|
| I would keep AT at the end of the list - the other schools above all have excellent ECE programs, and kids get to go to all of the specials in designated classrooms (AT does not have a gym or art room, etc) and there is a playground. Some of the schools like LT have additional programs like FoodPrints which are part of the curriculum. JOW has an excellent ECE program and the classroom space is larger than AT. |
She has AT at the very end as a safety, as do many people. You are telling her to move it up because you don't want her to compete for a spot at a more desirable school. As the other PP said, the other schools offer many advantages, such as outdoor space, which is pretty important for ECE. |
No. I don't care where she goes or for how long. It's totally her perogative. I was saying it would suck to make a long commute for a short term school whentherr is a widely acceptable one walking distance. |
Ok, not you, but the PP who told her to pay for private did. Lots of self-interested advice as soon as someone says they won't stay beyond PK. |
PP you quoted. I agree. I was the earlier poster that said I was at ITS. I don't care if people come for one year, two years, or 11 years. Personally, I would love a preschool that we can walk to and would prioriotize that if I had a great neighborhood school that I planned on attending. |
| Thanks all! We already have a nanny who will be doing the commute portion (who will take care of our other little one as well), so while yes it is important it isn't the end all be all. Other than ITS the commute to the other places on this list aren't bad. We may remove ITS for that reason. But, like most have said if we have a great lottery number that would allow us to grab a space at these sought after charters, we will likely get into Maury. If our number is bad, JO may be the only place we have an option to get into ahead of Appletree. We don't need free care since we are already paying for a nanny, but I would love for my son to have kids his own age to play with during the day. |
| Peabody is a waste of a spot. I would put Miner over Appletree SW. Appletree SW is far from the Maury boundary. Miner is much closer and the ECE program is well liked. What about Tyler (traditional) or Payne? |

Hi all,
We are far WOTP in the Palisades. DS is in Spanish-only day care (we speak English at home). We'd like to keep up the Spanish, but are looking for a public option with recess. We have a nanny for DD, so commute is only really an issue insofar as it would be tough for the kids to be in the car so much each day. DH would like to keep DS at home next year with the nanny, before trying for our IB PK4 (Key). I'd like to see where we can get in before making a decision. What do you think of the below list?
