My first R rated movie was Animal House too! |
Same here. I consider this on a movie-by-movie basis once the kids hit 12. |
It would depend on the movie. I have seen R rated movies that I would consider to be soft porn. I've also seen them that I would consider to be PG-13. |
10 - First Monday in October. I insisted my Mom take me to see it - she told me I would be bored and not like it, but said OK. She was right and we left after first 20 minutes. It was just too adult for me and flew right over my head. |
Yeah. What used to be R is now PG 13 for the most part. The more gruesome or more sexually explicit stuff is R. I was 17 but I had very protective parents. |
I was about 7, Mom couldn't find a babysitter, and I still remember the rape scene. So yeah, I've been careful with my kids.
I don't consider letting them watch R-rated/TV-MA things until they're in their teens. Once they're in their teens, I take it on a case-by-case basis, including the sensitivities of the particular child. I find out what the R is for. IMDB parental guide is great for this. I don't care about swearing and nudity. |
I saw Stand By Me when I was 9 and loved it. |
We'll follow the age guidelines. Rules are rules around here. |
DH and I rented Bad Moms the other night and our 12 yo came in and watched too (we thought she'd stay in her room). I'm a bad mom now! Her bad language and the neglect of her future children will be all my fault. |
My mom was very strict about this (and I wasn't a kid who was willing to sneak around and bread the rules) so I was 17. I don't remember what movie it was.
For my kids, it's generally no but willing to bend if I've seen the movie first and think it's OK for them. For example, I let my 13 yr old DS watch Boyhood which sparked some good conversation about growing up. And he and 12 yr old DD have seen Stand By Me. |
They aren't rules though. They're guidelines meant to help people too dumb to think critically on their own. |
haha I suddenly remember my first husband's mom wouldn't let them watch anything that wasn't G rated, until they turned 17. She was old-school! A sweetheart, though. |
I was probably around 10ish. My 11 year old has seen several. I don't mind as long as their isn't too much gun violence or overt sexual/drug use. Most of the stuff he's seen is old horror films like Jason and Freddy Kruger stuff. More recently he's seen 1 or 2 of the Purge movies. |
Bad moms |
Is it Logan? My almost 12 year old really wants to see it (and he has never seen an R rated movie). |
