Well it sort of would be DC getting statehood- -just not the state we wanted (not offense MD)!

None taken. DC deserves statehood.

Here's a description of what Chaffetz wants to do. Moron!

During a House Oversight Committee hearing, Chaffetz casually mentioned that he was "exploring" having the residential areas of D.C. retrocede back to Maryland, though his exploration apparently has not yet involved speaking with people from the District or the Old Line State about the idea.

He has a long history of meddling in D.C. affairs, including pledging to block D.C.'s Death With Dignity Act and voting to overturn the Reproductive Health Non-Discrimination Act.

He's got it wrong! Bethesda and DC want to become part of NW!

I saw someone on Facebook raising money for a primary challenge to chaffetz. It would be poetic justice if this man who clearly prefers to meddle in DC laws rather than take care of his own constituents were beaten by a primary challenger.

DC is already over-represented. This would be good.

23rd Amendment.

I think Jason in the House is correct - DC should merge with another state - but I think it should merge with Utah.

And than Jason in the House could go back to "multi level marketing" and we can get some principled progressives in the House and Senate.

How about DC residents getting to vote in whichever state's house / senate election we feel like? Just one vote, but nationwide. Since we're represented by all of them...

They are trying to get Evan McMullin to run. He's from Chaffetz's district and is a moderate Republican with a lot of national support from open-minded Democrats.

Um, Arlington County was retroceded into Virginia through a simple vote of Congress.

I am pretty sure Virginia supported that though. As did the folks in Arlington County (which included the City of Alexandria at the time). Nor do I suspect there was much objection from the folks on the Washington side of the Potomac, who did not much care about keeping Alexandria and Arlington (the latter pretty lightly populated at the time)

Um, what?

DC should become part of MD. Just do it and be done with the arguing.

Makes sense for DC to become a part of VA or MD. Right now DC bears unfair share of homeless and mental health costs from these two and other states. DC inside a state would give DC more options to deal with these and other similar chronic problems.

As a part of retrocession into MD or VA annexation, DC should negotiate that it would keep the vast majority of funds its taxpayers generate, among other concessions.

How about DC + Northern VA become a state?

You're making no sense.
