Current SJA family here. I think there are more families at SJA where gay dads would not raise an eyebrow. But there def is a conservative minority who can make families feel unwelcome. I don’t think it’ll be a kumbaya environment but I’m sure you’ll also find your tribe of families at SJA.

It is very catholic though and you’d have to be ok with that. I don’t think our kids have repeated anything anti-lgbt that they might have heard and I think that’s something they’d say something about bc we have close family members and friends who are gay.

I would look at Christian Family Montessori School in DC over SJA if your okay with Montessori-much more welcoming to all families.

There are plenty of kindergartens within PGCPS that are welcoming and where your family would be legally protected - and your kiddo would get a good education. SJA has changed over the years and there are some decidedly anti-LGBTQ families in the mix there.

St Jerome's was wonderful for my kids, there were a few gay families but it is not the norm as there is a majority uber catholic population there. I would say meet with the principal or directors and see how you feel, go to the info nights and open house etc. I think they would be up front with you. You will not see any rainbows there unless they are talking about Noah and the arc. You will just have to adjust the info they come home with to match your family beliefs. The focus with the curriculum is student centered and students are well cared for in a loving nonjudgmental environment but this is the church's belief https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Catholic_Church_and_homosexuality I wouldn't say they are very queer friendly its more of a dont ask dont tell situation.
