Not really. Le Pen has rebranded the FN as a national socialist party. She even stole the rose from the socialists for their logo. She's going to run the same campaign Trump did, pro welfare state and liberty for US but no welfare state or liberty for THEM. Fillon, a former Prime Minister, on the other hand is running on a policy platform to the right of Thatcher. As a result, it will likely be a low turnout election as the socialists will have no reason to vote in the runoff, which increases the chances of a Le Pen victory. However, the "Le Pen" brand is historically toxic among the vast majority of French people so Fillon's only hope to win would be people coming out to vote against Le Pen. It's going to be an interesting election. |
