We live in VA. Both time there were active crime issues in my area, the criminals were from PG county |
Black or white, when young students get killed by miscreants like these three over by Howard its wrong. Plain wrong. We need more crime cameras in DC and to support our city cops and get these wanton killers off the streets. |
| And I will add I am.so happy my kid has shipped off to college. The most dangerous thing to be in this city is a young person, preyed on by other young people. Predators. I seriously hope for rehabilitation for them because what they got from the first 18-19 years of life from their own families, thuggy peers and nihilistic, misogynist music and role.models the message life is cheap and image and 'fronting' is everything. |
| I wonder if the legalization of marijuana has anything to do with the rise in crime? Awfully coincidental. |
In other words, he's white. No, not everything has a racial slant. But in a city where 90% of the homicides are black, what are the odds that the ones we hear about on DCUM are all white? Extremely low, unless it actually has a racial slant to it. This is not my mind. This is a matter of mathematical probabilities. |
| How many that are not white have you posted about? |
I have posted a number of times about the homicides at the time of the death of that first former intern. No one knew who the victims were. But hey, if you want to start a conversation, what happened to Brian Sickles was tragic. Nice man, well loved in his neighborhood. I'm sure you are very familiar with his case. |
Do you start a new thread every time there is a black homicide victim in DC? Not your copy and paste lists, but a new thread for every single one? No? Why not? You should talk about Brian Sickles..Just like people talked about Relisha Ridd, the Howard student, the reporter at the bus stop. A city where people can't send there kids to be intern, walk down the road to a party, stand at a bus stop, ride metro, or be in a kid in the care of adults is not a livable city for any of us, black or white, rich or poor. |
I'm a millenial and one night I walked from dupont circle to stadium armory (this was in march) at 2-3am. I'm a small framed guy. It was a thursday night. I didn't feel like I was in danger. |
| Because you are a millenial you don't remember when DC was Murder One and that wasn't the case. You don't remember when people were executed in Macolm X Pak and walking around Capitol Hill at night was the diciest of propositions. This crime trend is troubling. There are predators in DC for whom life is very cheap. And the police are on the defensive. the Mayor and Lanier need to come out with a strong statement of support for the police and a plan. Also, more cameras. Lets keep you and everyone else 'feeling' safe. |
Yep. All you have to do is look at the decline in areas where liberals are not wanting to 'insult anyone' by going easy on crime. |
were you in DC when the Trinidad neighborhood was shut down? They had police checkpoints for going into the area in 2008. did you know any of the young millenials who have been victims of violence? a co-worker was a victim of stray bullet in Shaw at 5PM on Saturday. just because you survived something does not mean it was a smart thing to do. |
No, I don't. Because I am not the racist here flipping out every time someone of my color is killed so that I can talk about black thugs and how dangerous DC is to score political points. Here are sites you would go to if you really cared to follow every tragedy, not just the ones that look like you: http://homicidewatch.org https://www.facebook.com/pages/Homicide-Watch-DC/121936297867647 http://mpdc.dc.gov/node/993822 You will notice that Homicide Watch has not posted homicides since December 2014. The Boston organization that runs it needs to find someone local to run it. Someone like you, who wants to see every homicide covered -- not just cut and pasted. |
Actually, you could also point out that at least 80% of the homicides are ones where the victim had some sort of preexisting relationship with their killer. Situations where the victim has no relationship with the killer are much, much more rare. Also more newsworthy. |
|
Today's Post--young rapper life cut short in PG and man stabbed to death for bumping some with his bag on MetroBus. Both newsworthy, the first due to untapped potential the second to random crime again on PUBLIC TRANSPORT. There is a group of people in our tri state area for whom life is cheap and who feel they can operate with impunity (which makes sense given the revolving door of youth punishment, shoddy rehab, scared witnesses and subpar solve rate). In addition to 'long term solutions' we need immediate and better policing, coordination and cameras. Summer jobs program us great, but not if you get killed on the bus going to your job. |
