Not OP, but they do sometimes stop carrying things. Like those amazing marcona almonds and the switcheroo on the dried mango companies. |
Costco pesto is the only prepared pesto I like, but man, I could drink the stuff. It's great on everything. I use it to marinate chicken kebabs before grilling them, then serve over rice with grape tomatoes also cooked on skewers ... SO good. it's also great drizzled over roasted potatoes and I sometimes put a spoonful of it in my homemade vinaigrette. That pesto is the BOMB. |
Making it yourself is too expensive for me. |
Totally agree with this poster. I don't like to buy prepared food, especially if I can make it myself. Costco's pesto tastes really good, is pretty cheap for what you get, and doesn't have chemicals/preservatives. We love it! |
I just bought a jar of this pesto at the Wheaton Costco yesterday.
I can make my own, but this tastes excellent so why bother? |
Chantilly has it! |
Just went to costco last night..saw it and now I'm reading this thread. Wish I had bought it! |
No garlic and cheese optional? Bush League. |
Not if you grow your own basil. |
Where I find this goodness? Refrigerated section? By the cheese? How long does it keep once opened? |
It's in the refrigerated deli section, next to the packs of fresh tortellini and ravioli. I don't know how long it keeps. Ours is always gone in a few days! |
I love Costco pesto but the other day while dipping some cold shrimp in it I looked at the label. Don't. 330 calories for 1/4 cup! WTF!? I considered it reasonably healthy. That's a fuckton of calories. |
Healthy? Huh? It's pine nuts, olive oil and Parmesan cheese. Oh, and some basil and garlic. If you google "pesto calories" you'll see that it's 80 calories a tablespoon, which is 320 calories for a 1/4 cup. Still delicious. |
Pesto is pretty healthy (not speaking specifically about costci brand, but in general) but in the way nuts and oils are healthy, not a vegetable! A quarter cup of olive oil is almost 500 calories. We love it, but use it on pasta or as a spread in the same amounts as oil or butter. |
It is basil, oil, cheese and pine nuts! Of course the calorie count it high-- though lower than a 1/4 cup of pure olive oil. |
