I started #1 on whole milk at 11 mos (mixed with breastmilk) because he went on a nursing strike, and I had planned to wean at 1 yo anyway. Ped and all other sources I trust say if baby is eating a good diet of solids and has shown no indications of a problem with dairy, this is no problem. He loved it from day one, and I pumped for a few weeks to wean my body. Was done by 1 yo.
#2 turned 11 mos this week, and we just introduced whole milk this week so that I can wean off of the pumping sessions. Right now he's getting mixed bottles, but I plan to be done pumping in another week or so, so after that his bottles on the days I work will be whole milk only. My goal is to wean completely by 1yo. To answer OP's question directly, at this point, introducing whole milk is fine, so if pumping is making you miserable, stop. But make sure your body is ready to stop pumping -- do it gradually (drop one session every few days). |
