Hi OP, I'm taller than you at 5'7 and trying to lose the last 10 pounds, from 135 to 125.

That's what I have been doing the last week, and already lost 2 pounds:
1. I regularly do pilates but started doing it every day, 5 days a week, rest on the weekend.
2. Cut out all wheat.
3. Cut out as much sugar a possible, but nothing crazy. I did eat dark chocolate this week and also several paleo muffins that had grade b maple syrup instead of sugar. If you do drink alcohol try drinking straight whiskey instead of a cocktail or try a low carb beer.
4. Intermittent Fasting. I skip breakfast and don't snack after dinner. I eat pretty healthy in between but nothing crazy. I also prefer the higher fat, lower carb style of eating.

I went from 120 back to 114 by cutting out carbs in the morning...I used to have a buttered bagel and now have yogurt with 2 T. of chia seeds. I have also cut out sugar in my coffee and teas. I try to limit carbs in the afternoon and eat a TON of veggies instead. Then I eat an entire baguette for dinner. Kidding. But I do let myself eat carbs for dinner. Try roasting a bunch of vega at the beginning of the week to snack on. Oh, and I try to do some sort of cardio for at least 30 minutes 3x a week and do strength training a couple times a week. Maintenance is a bitch at 40 I've gotta say and everyone tells me it just gets harder.

I'd cut all bread, wheat, grains etc. even before I'd worry about the cheese and see where you are. Then eliminate the cheese if you aren't where you want to be. That whole "wheatbelly" thing has been dead on for me.

You live once. Is 5 pounds worth no cheese, bread, alcohol, etc. just something to think about.

It's not realistic for most people to cut out wheat entirely, and not sustainable.

There's a reason Weight Watchershas been so successful for decades and it is because it teaches you to eat anything within reason.

op again - i'm not aiming for an unsustainable weight. just for my normal weight, that lets me fit into my clothes! and also not looking for some crazy restrictive diet. am willing to cut back on some foods till my clothes fit right again is all.

but i agree with your overall attitude, which is that life is a lot about pleasure and enjoyment, and that hard-core deprivation is no way to live.

For me: dairy, sugar, meat!

For those that cut out wheat - only wheat? As in, white rice and other procesed carbs are ok? nd not even wheat in whole grain products? I'm pretty much in the same shoes as OP and definitely notice carb related bloat but havent identified if it is wheat specifically or all processed carbs.

The cheese is fine. Cut the bread and refined carbs.

Smoke and super small portions for a week. This is the only thing that works for me.

I'm similar height and same thing happened to me last year when I turned 40. Lost 8 pounds by not eating until noon except coffee), eating a light lunch and then indulging in a large dinner plus after dinner snack/drink. I love bread and I am sure I would loose weight by not eating it, but I would also be miserable. I also hate going to bed hungry so loading my calories towards bedtime is more sustainable for me. I'm on the go all day so the light eating during the day is very doable for me and doesn't impact my energy level. Am sure my metabolism will take another dive as I head into menopause so perhaps I will need to do the conventional thing and cut out wheat and sugar eventually but very happy I don't need to do that yet.

Anonymous wrote:Im the PP who posted about eliminating wheat. I am just under 5'4 and it feels alot better to weigh 123 than almost 130.

My personal ideal is 118. I'll take 120, though. So only a few pounds to go. Not obsessing either. But I second the absence of mid morning hunger since I started eating oatmeal and fruit every morning!

I'm 5'3 and my ideal weight is also 118. I'm at 125 and would accept 120 graciously at this point!!! These 5 extra lbs are killing me.

I'm 5'1 and currently at 121. My ideal weight is 110 but I'll settle for 115. Right now I'm eliminating carbs at breakfast, too - having eggs and an iced coffee with cream instead of my usual latte and yogurt. The problem is that by midafternoon I'm feeling peckish and will hit the vending machine. I know what needs to be done to lose the weight (I've done it before), but I lack the willpower apparently. If anyone has a good solution for that particular problem, I'm all ears!
