| is there a gender balance they try to maintain off the waitlist? (not that this matters - just curious) |

I was told (by someone who used to work in admissions, or whatever they call the selection committee for HGC) that it is truly a lottery. They do not attempt to balance for gender, race or home elementary school. It is random.
Not sure I believe it, but she swore this is how it works. |

| ^^That rings true. A child left our HGC mid year this year. Even though the class is very girl-heavy, the child pulled from the wait list was a girl. No attempt to deliberately pick a boy. |

It is not a lottery. It is competitive-entrance. They do not balance for gender. I have a close friend who has served on the selection committee. |

| I believe the pp was referring to the wait list. Not regular admissions. |

| Question: will they start calling this week? All acceptances and appeals were due on Friday. How does the timing work? And to the PP who said it is not a lottery, the AEI office specifically stated it WAS a lottery once you were on the waitlist. |

We got a call, but this was closer to the beginning of the school year, so I'm not sure if that's what they typically do. |
