Agree.

Agree. UW has a great academic rep for a state school. The campus is beautiful. Madison is a great town.

Midwesterner here, and another vote for Madison - fantastic school, great town, great culture. I can't really say much about the others. My sister is at Minnesota and it's going fine academically but it's just too cold to be worth it IMO.

Nice try.

1. University of Wisconsin- Madison (great academics/perfect college town/ diverse social opportunities/anyone can fit in)
2. University of Minnesota/Marquette/Miami of Ohio
3. DePaul/ St. Louis University

Kind of an odd collection, two huge public, both good, both the same quality for the mos part though Madison is more fun. One medium sized good public Miami Ohio, and then three middling private Catholic schools. Hard to compare them, though I would probably say Marquette, DePaul and then SLU, which has had a tremendous amount of turmoil over the last few years, but it is really Milwaukee, Chicago and St. Louis, your call on those.

This, 100%. Madison is well known as a great research university and it is a very cool, progressive, fun college town too.

Go fuck yourself, snob. If you have nothing constructive to offer, take your BS somewhere else.

Signed, no we are not all unfailingly nice and think you east coast snobs can suck it already

Madison remains a well known undergrad party school. It is a small town. The big city there is... Milwaukee.

You're pretty uninformed if you think Madison ranks under SLU, for Pete's sake. Madison is a Top 50 school. Try again.

Madison is small city of 275,000 people. There are many things for a student to do there. Outdoor activities, art , festivals, live music venues, shopping, great places to eat. You don't need to drink to have a good social life like at many colleges that are in rural areas.

I went to a midwest school not listed, and competed in a sport against some of those schools. I was always impressed by Madison - seemed like a fun school with nice and smart people.
MN guys were tall and big. That's really my only memory of them, so probably not too useful.
I had a good friend who went to Marquette and loved it - thrived there and is in a happy and successful career now. It's not Georgetown, Notre Dame, or BC, but if you're looking for a Catholic school it could be a really good option.

Wisconsin is the standout in terms of national/international reputation and draws people from all over the country. Badgers have alumni networks all over. All the other schools are considered fine solid academics in the Midwest and draw mostly students from the Midwest and many will end up working in the Minneapolis/Madison/Chicago area.
