| As a parent of a teenager, it makes me think about how much I want to be everywhere my teenager is in order to protect her from harm. Obviously that isn't possible nor is it desirable to raise a child that way. But this brings home how ultimately you can't prepare for every possibility. The idea that my child could go upstairs to the bathroom and just fall and die in a freak accident while someone was home is terrifying. But that's the world we live in and we have to accept it. How devastating for the Travoltas and their staff. |

| I know I sounded a little harsh in my criticism of the posters talking about Scientology, autism, responsibility, etc. I don't even have my own child and I still couldn't imagine what it would be like to lose a child. I can't imagine a worse life event. It seemed like people were kicking the Travoltas while they were down, something that really sticks in my craw. The same thing happened on the thread about the triplets injured in the house fire-a lot of folks were saying they should have done this, they shouldn't have done that, what the heck were they thinking? Then I started to realize that it was similar to rubber necking at a car accident-we want to think it couldn't have happened to us because we would have done something differently-oh, they were on their cell phone, they ran a red light, they went over the median. Parents that I talk to all the time are trying to not only raise their children into good citizens but also prevent anything bad that could ever possibly happen to them. If I talk to them, they won't do drugs. If I love them to pieces, they'll be happy and love themselves. If I make them eat vegetables, they'll never get cancer. The sad truth is there are no guarantees when it comes to the future. Children are as subject to fate as the rest of the world. That must be very scary for all parents and I apologize for being judgemental. |
Well, the staff is now fired. I would suggest taking kids away from dangerous cults. Why did the child protection agency never do anything. Kawasaki is a treatable disease and only affects 2 to 5 year old children. If he was autistic and getting ceizures, why did he not get the latest therapy that is available. you would expect them to treat their kid with more than shampoocarpet. Oh, I forgot, CPS does not investigate the kids of the wealthy |

They said he was on seizure medication and meds are not typically a treatment for autism (if he was autistic). What kind of treatment did they refuse their son?
They are Scientologists, not Christian Science followers. Huge difference. |
