SLU might actually be a good choice, btw. It's in an area between the Delmar Loop and South Grand, both of which are pretty vibrant areas. Academics are okay and the student body is wonderful.

Marquette is a commuter school at the edge of downtown Milwaukee. It's definitely not safe for a lone female to walk around at night but lots of security and free rides lower the risk. You won't see massive lush green lawns, but it has big east basketball which has a great local following..

It's not a huge destination for many who reside outside of Wisconsin, aside from suburban Chicago. But it has a good supply of middle class Catholic kids. It's not known academically to everybody in the US, but it's respected in the Chicago area. Its most famous alumni is Chris Farley. It's a good place to consider for a full ride scholarship.
