Steel cut oats are delicious. (I especially like them made with milk.) Add brown sugar or honey, and raisins.
And you might want to try oat bran, as a pp mentioned. We've enjoyed several different warm-cereal blends by Bob's Red Mill, so those are worth a try. They're quite different actually, so if you don't like one, you might like another. |

I chop an apple and add this and raisins to the water and bring to a boil
Cook oatmeal in this until done, add chopped almonds, sprinkle of brown sugar and a splash of half and half |
| steel cut oatmeal. Totally different texture and better for you. Make it ahead of time, because it takes 20-30 minutes. Then, refrigerate several separated portions to heat in the microwave in the morning. Add a pat of butter/little salt, cinnamon, and I love cayenne w/ a little brown sugar for the days you want sweet. Yum. |
| There are all kinds of breakfast porridges to try if you really can't get over it. Quinoa, for example, can be made for breakfast. You can do a breakfasty version of rice pudding. Bob's Redmill makes a prepackaged porridge. I love old fashioned regular oatmeal and I really want to like steel cut but just don't. |

Try overnight muesli:
2 cups oats 1 cup milk Some chopped apple or crisp pear Nuts Dried cranberries, dates, etc Cinnamon Splash of lemon juice Mix everything at night and refrigerate. My family prefers oats this way and it seems to keep us full longer. Google overnight Swiss muesli for lots of options. |
| i load it up - nuts, shredded coconut, berries or dried fruit, nut butter, even sunflower seeds. |
| Try Quaker oats Raisin Date walnut - I like only that one... |
| I love baked oatmeal but it does include eggs. I cook a big batch on the weekend and eat it for several days afterwards (has blueberries and bananas and nuts in it) and the texture is different. |
My wife makes a granola likes this (without the eggs) due to food allergies. She toasts the oatmeal in huge batches, and then has it for breakfast. Recipes are easy to file on the internet. I also make oatmeal cookies that I eat for breakfast. I cut down the sugar by half to make it more breakfasty. It is a guilty pleasure to have cookies for breakfast, but they are great on the go and you can make and store nice batches. |

Try an oatmeal smoothie
.5 c oatmeal Ripe banana 1 c frozen blueberries .5 c milk 2 TB peanut butter Dash of vanilla Ice and water Blend in blender Delicious and refreshing |
Oops, I meant brown sugar, chocolate chips and walnuts! |

Steel cut oats have a better texture--chewy.
I'm another who bakes a fairly healthy version of oatmeal cookies. You can also do what I do sometimes, and pretend you're a Dickens character being forced to eat your gruel. |

I'm eating mine as I type this, and I HATED it at first. I really really really think the steel-cut oats are much better so I eat those. I soak overnight (1/4 in one cup water) and then microwave for a few minutes, add some peanut butter and cinnamon, and microwave for a few more minutes. Let it sit until it's creamy. Put sunflower seeds on top. It's fantastic.
It did take me a few weeks but I powered through and now I'm in love. Eat it every single morning. Good luck! |
