Nice houses in our safe, family friendly neighborhood in Silver Spring, 20901, for $450K. They aren't huge, fancy, new houses (more like Cape Cods from the 30s and 40s) but it's convenient and you get MoCo schools.

Yes, but which ones?

You had me at Wegman's.

There is a Wegmen's close to Bowie!

Seriously. People there is a Wegmans right off of 495 like 5 minutes from Bowie.

Actually the Lanham Wegman's is about 15 minutes from Bowie, but still not too far. Just not the convenient local supermarket.

It's older, but very nice. That's actually where the really good elementary schools are.

Can you tell me a little about the neighborhood around bowie university? Is quiet, safe, family friendly? Are they around 400/ 450k or cheaper? Is the neighborhood that you would recommend your family to live?

NP here. As I live in 20707, I agree. But one caveat, try to find one of the neighborhoods zoned for Bond Mill elementary school. Not only is it the best elementary school in PG County, but the homes zoned for that school hold their values better.

I agree that the homes in 20707 are a great value - but they are zoned for Laurel High School. No, thanks.

Ha ha! Totally true. In fact, I think the new shopping has drawn people to Crofton that the current Crofton-ites moved there to get away from. And so it goes...

The area is quiet and safe. And there's a MARC station at the university with free parking.

You should definitely be able to find a very nice single family home in the area for below $400k.

Bowie HS is probably the best general-enrollment HS in Prince George's.

I moved away from Bowie years ago...is there a neighborhood near Bowie U? When I was a kid, there was nothing around it. Well, the abandoned racetrack...

All of 20715 is generally nice. Old Bowie used to be terrible (crackheads hanging out in the park downtown). South Bowie is sort of dodgy but not really bad. Bowie is basically full of boring old white people who complain about all the blacks moving in. (Depending on how well they know you, they don't say "blacks.")

No, that's Crofton. And Bowie is where the blacks are coming from.

If you like Cloverly, how about the Sherwood Forest neighborhood of Silver Spring in 20904? There's not much on the market now, but very few people want to sell their houses at this time of year. I an guessing that more houses will go up for sale in early 2014.

This is the only house I see on the market in Sherwood Forest right now. It's a little over your price range but it has been for sale for a while and it looks like it is empty so they might bargain:

Everyone I know who lives in Sherwood Forest likes the elementary school and there is a great community pool in the neighborhood.

That's down county right. Not the same as the good MOCO schools.
