How much did you give to your school's annual fund this year?

We gave 5500 last year and will likely give a similar amount this year. Our school publishes the difference between the cost of educating each child and the tuition so we go by that figure.

I'm wondering if you are at Beauvoir as that is the amount they list as the gap also. Is that a pretty common amount to give, or would you say that's on the high side? Thanks...

Not PP. When schools state the gap amount per student does excludes amounts generated from other sources like alumn or corporate?

$1,000 for high school, $2,500 for K-8 school where we are also giving $5,000/year for 5 years to capital campaign.

Yes we are at Beauvoir. Although I did see the list last year I really don't remember the spread. Hopefully another parent will chime in and enlighten you. Sorry.

Not to hijack...but I am very intrigued/impressed by the generosity of the posters giving so much $$...in addition to the tuition.

We haven't embarked on the whole priv. school thing yet since we are new to the area (plus DD is only 15 mo. old...), but what/where does this extra $$ go? I would have thought that the high tuition would be ample amount to fund school functions, sports, and field trips.

As PPs have noted, there is typically a several thousand dollar gap between the amount of tuition and the amount spent on each child.

In addition to the annual fund, there are lots of other expenditures: trips, books, private music lessons (mandatory at some schools), sports equipment.

wow....I would love to hear more from some other families related to this topic. Is it really a substitute to give of your time vs. $? Are there some who give a couple of hundred bucks and it is ok?

PP...are you saying that above the tuition that you paid to Beauvoir, you gave an additional $5500 dollars in annual giving?

I am the pp you are referring to. Actually that 5500 was just for the annual fund. We also gave for other projects/initiatives.

FWIW, I pledged $1000.

Those of you givine $1000 to $5000.
Are you exceptionally wealthy? What I mean is are you also putting the same amount, or double that, into your childs 529 account? Or are you already overinvested in that?

It would seem strange to give that much as a charitable donation to school, and not be able to do the same to retirement or 529 accounts.
