$100 per square foot is not going to get you the high end finishes that a lot of people on this board are accustomed to.

Before you go down the tear-down/build-your-own road, check with the county about permitting and regulations. A friend in Vienna has been living in hell b/c they had no idea how long it would take to get the permits and there is some kind of restriction related to expanding footprint of the house (can't be larger than 20 pct of original footprint, I think she said).
