Found a lost dog -- how to check for microchip?

Anonymous
I found a dog a while ago, Wash. Humane society came by and scanned her, no chip, but she was reunited with owners.

OP here. The dog did have a chip and I spoke with his owner this morning.

She decided she didn't want to keep him and took his collar off and let him out of her car in my neighborhood (where she doesn't live).

She ws sorry about it. I told her no judgment but wanted some details about him, and said I would find him a home if she felt she wasn't able to. She offered to give me his records and said he's up to date on all his shots, etc. She said he was a sweet dog but was misbehaving/chewing holes in the carpet but also said she was leaving him alone at home for long periods of time in his crate, so ....

So I guess we will foster him until we can find him a home!

Unbelievable. WTF is wrong with her? Plenty of judgment here, I hope she finds herself homeless -see how she likes it.

That is horrible.

It's very kind of you to take in the dog and help him find a home.

OMG. This is animal cruelty and negligence. What do you mean no judgment? This is a reportable offense. She needs to be cited and held accountable for her actions. Please contact animal control and report what has happened. The will fine/cite her. The dog got lucky in finding you. But what if that had not happened? It could have been hit by a car, starved, etc. Please report her. This is not how a decent human being should act.

OP here. Of course I think she did something wrong but I also think that, to do this, someone must be in a crisis of some kind. He's a well-cared for and sweet dog, very calm, obviously not mistreated, recently groomed ... I also don't want to make trouble down the road and if I had harangued her on the phone, she might not have talked to me about the dog's background and I really thought I needed to know and have 100% confirmation that she was giving him up.

You are right, OP. Thank God you found this dog. He/she deserved better and someone upstairs was looking out for him/her when you found him/her! OMG!

I can NOT believe that previous owner. Can NOT beLIVE it. I hope someone whom she loves takes her somewhere and then just dumps her and leaves her abandoned. What in the world????
