I don't think PP was "judging" McCain for that. Quite the opposite, s/he appeared to be praising him for having the courage to admit to such. |
Oh, okay, thanks for another perspective on that comment. |
Jeff is right about what I meant about McCain cracking under torture. He spoke movingly of it in his acceptance speech, and it is clear that he is much less forgiving of himself than anyone else. Personally, I cannot imagine withstanding torture very long, so I truly meant it as a compliment that he has owned up to his failings. And that is why I am surprised that he did not prevail on Palin to do likewise. In fact, I can't understand why McCain himself has taken the opposite approach and attacked John Lewis for criticizing his recent mudslinging. I think he (McCain) could have apologized for the response of his audiences and distanced himself from any intent to emulate Wallace without claiming that Lewis's comments were "shocking and beyond the pale." I'm afraid John has blown his right to righteous indignation; when you have been acting offensively for weeks, a good offense is no longer the best defense! |
Not to say that I'm not right, but that wasn't me. |
