So disgusted at McCain for inciting racism!

Anonymous
I feel badly for McCain.

He was a person who always spoke his mind, even when everyone around him opposed him. I really admired him. It's when he got so close to the presidency, that the independent thinking that he was known for for decades gave way to vote-mongering. The temptation of power must have been so overwhelming, and he's hardly the first. It happened so late in his political career, and now it will always taint his reputation and legacy.

I suppose I wouldn't feel sorry for him if I thought he would win the presidency through these tactics. But he will lose. Obama's campaign is full of hope, and McCain's just seems to inspire the worst in people.

There are rumors that those who say "there are rumors" are starting rumors.

I have not seen any clips or read any stories about John McCain inciting racism. Please list actual facts, not media/personal distortions. From the reports, (although I agree it's not pretty), crowds chanted "socialist"-they were referring to Bill Ayers, not Obama. Please do not make such sweeping,disturbing allegations without backing it up--calling someone a racist who is not a racist is as ugly as actually being a racist (IMO).

Exactly. Once you call somebody a racist there's no turning back. Argue McCain on the issues, don't engage in some baseless name-calling. And by the way, who will give McCain props for not bringing up the Wright issue? Nobody on DCUM, I'm willing to bet.

He did bring up the Wright issue...months ago and said that should not be discussed. That was when he didn't think he had to worry about Obama (before Obama was even the democratic nominee) and when he was still of a mind to keep the campaign about the issues. I'm sure he's kicking himself about that decision, but he can't go back now. Because of that, he can only propagate the NEW smear material.

I agree. I think it is going too far to call McCain a racist and it's also counterproductive. People, please go after McCain on the facts and stop throwing epithets like "racist" at him.

However, you're deeply mistaken if you think the "socialist" term is aimed at Bill Ayers. I've seen this thrown at Obama over and over. Crowds don't care about condemning Bill Ayers. It's Obama they're after. And, speaking as a socialist, people are deluded if they think that Obama is a socialist.

Are you living in a bubble or are you one of the people screaming "Kill him" and "he's a terrorist, an Arab"? Do you believe it is OK to get a crowd working up with hate focused on the individual and then have people yell racial remarks at the poor camera guy?

Wow so trying to say the attendees at all the rallies are really democratic covert operatives did not work so now you want to try denying it has been occuring? Sure all the mainstream media is making it up and the footage must be generated by computers. Good grief, how low will you go? Republicans desperately need to repair their party image which this campaign has drug into the mud. The worse this gets the less people will forget and they will attribute it not just to McCain but other Republicans if it keeps going on.

Just watched the clip again after reading the last few messages, and again, nowhere did I see McCain inciting racism. Why do you guys hate him so much?

I don't think anyone is suggesting that McCain has gotten up on stange and called Obama the "N" word. But, if you take the McCain/Palin message as a whole:

1) Obama palls around with terrorists;
2) Obama doesn't see this country the same way we do;
3) Who is the real Obama?
4) Electing Obama would be a risk.
5) Hussein

You see they are painting a picture of Obama as an America-hating, terrorist-sympathizing, possibly Arab or Muslim, Manchurian candidate.

In short, they are saying that Obama should be feared as a danger to America.

The nutjobs attending their rallies have only one solution for dangers to America and it is not polite conversation.

You may, in fact, be correct that this is not "racism", but the difference hardly matters. This is a climate of hatred fraught with danger that is very similar to a climate of racism. Hence, John Lewis' statement today.

For sure, McCain deserves credit for trying to reign in some audience members yesterday. But, had it not been for his and Palin's over-the-top rhetoric, the reigning in would not be necessary.
