My child is in AAP and has limited outside activities per her request. She does better with assignments etc if we give her the "down time" she needs to play outside, play on her computer, or sit quietly and draw. Gives her time to think, she says. Every child is different. |
Just about same as non-AAP kids in gen. ed.

My kid says he is stressed. HW is less than an hour every night, sometimes just 1/2 hour. but with several activities, there never seems enough down time. This kid is introverted and needs lots of time to read, draw and create to recharge.
But AAP is still better for him, because otherwise, school would just be too easy. Bedtime, 8:30--creeps up to 9pm sometimes. sleep is so important. I limit his HW sometimes. I just say, after an hour, you are done. |
Wow! You limit his homework? What does the teacher say about that?

1.How many after school extracurricular activities are your kids in? 3: music, language and one sport. Sport takes 2 hours per day, 6 days per week.
2. Is it hard to get homework done? No. She went to Canterbury Woods and there was minimal HW until 6th grade. The curriculum was very challenging in 6th grade though. But still, all her friends still did the same amount of extracurricular activities. 3. How many school days (Monday-Thursday) does your child have activities? 5-days per week 4. How long is each activity (door to door)? If door to door, 2.5 hours for sport each day, one hour violin lesson per week (20 min practicing each day), and 2 hours foreign language per week. 5. What time does your child go to sleep? 8:30pm since she got up to sport practice at 6:50am. 6. How old is your child? Now 16 ![]() and 7. Is your child more stressed/more tired on nights there are activities? No, elementary school is really easy. All the real work begin at 6 grade and intensifies each year thereafter. Thanks for any input! |
Thanks for the info...I'm assuming your younger child needs more sleep and has less activities...? |
Yes the younger one has less activities. He has a 30 min piano less per week, one tennis lesson and one soccer lesson per week, and two tennis practices on weekends. He also swim, skating, basketball, but none of these are routine or serious. |
