I don't have the best memory (one would think I was the old one, not Biden/McCain) and I only vote for a President/VP every four years so I forget much in between but... am I remembering correctly that I had to I pull a lever for President and pull a separate lever for Vice President (or punch a button. however you vote)? Why am I remembering doing it that way? I don't recall pulling the lever for President/Vice President. I could swear I pulled a lever for each one. So...if that is indeed the case why can't you cast a vote for McCain then cast a vote for Biden? |
I think you are probably remembering incorrectly. You actually vote for a slate of electors, who then individually vote separately for president and vice president. So if you can figure out a way to lobby your state's electors to split their votes, you might succeed, but you can't split the vote yourself. |
Maybe you're thinking of an election for Governor and Lieutenant Governor? |
Re: Biden's and McCain's ages:
The numbers (chronological age) don't tell the story. Just look at the two of them instead. Biden is energetic, vigorous, alert. If you saw the rally in Springfield, IL when Obama announced the selection of his VP, Biden came running up the entranceway to the stage like he was an eager young relief pitcher taking the field from the bull pen. There couldn't be a greater contrast to McCain, who seems tired, pale and slow. I really noticed it last night when the news showed a clip of him answering a reporter's question during the 2000 election. He seemed like another man. In the last eight years, the damage from his war injuries has really emerged in his outward appearance. In the earlier clip, I didn't see nearly the stiffness and awkwardness he has today. |
Um, because McCain is running for president and if he dies, Palin would become president and complete the transformation of the United States into the laughingstock of the world. Biden is running for vice-president and if he dies, Obama would simply nominate a new vice-president, to be confirmed by the Congress. Presumably he would show decent judgement again and choose a reasonable person to fill the position. |
