I wish I had called the number like a PP did.

I received a confirmation email. Did anyone notice that this year the application didnt specify grade for PreK/PreS slots? I wonder how that will bode for the waitlist and whether or not there will be equal numbers of 3 and 4 year olds.

So I needed to apply a second time. SO frustrating. I called infosnap and they had no record of me applying the first time (even though I had the confirmation I printed out). So, I applied again just in case and got the email the second time. I've got both confirmations one at 12:30 and one at 1:15.

VERY annoying -

You think this is annoying? Imagine trying to sort through it in Spanish or French. The application is only in English. The translation function on the home page is automated google function. I hope this doesn't deter or delay too many non- or limited- English literate families. Wouldn't that defeat the purpose of a language immersion school?

It's a charter school. Be prepared for many frustrations. Charters generally don't have the resources for things like major IT lottery system in DCPS or admissions teams at private schools unless they are part of a large network of charters.

If you applied sight-unseen, consider this your wake-up call. There are always tradeoffs.

It never specifiy PreK/PreS because we only have PreK. This includes 3 and 4 year olds.

Actually, I can imagine because I'm ESL. However, I learned the language of the country I was living in just for that reason.

Yes but I thought I am pretty sure I had to specify on last years form which grade I was applying to and any previous schools attended. Last year they did a non-sibling lottery for 4s but not 3s so I am wondering how balanced PreK will be based on age.

more evidence for the need for a centralized, common application process for all charter schools. many jurisdictions have such. could be merged with DCPS's process

Last year PS and PK were in the same pool.

Last year Stokes did not host a PS/PK lottery for the school year 2012-2013. At that time there were no spaces available for non-siblings. All non-sibling applicants were placed on a waiting list which was organized by date and time of receipt of the application. As spaces came available Stokes contacted families on the waitlist according to admissions procedures.

I am PP. what you say is true but it what I'm saying
is that last year PS and PK applicants were in the same
Pool, the same waitlist.

8:35. You are right...same pool for PreS/PreK

I know there was no lottery last year. Does anyone know how far they got into the waiting list for 3s or 4s? I imagine there were only a few spots available.

This is what I want to know - since there are so many Stokes experts on here -

Go to the website or there is information about the school on one of the charter school sites http://downtowndckids.org/charters-elsie-whitlow-stokes and you can read about it.
