GOP and Race

LOL! Maybe the Reps were using the whole situation to demonstrate some of their core beliefs - family values and national security.

I'm still trying to calm down about the community organizers attack.

That absolutely infuriated me as well, for the reasons you outlined. As a person in the international development community, I was also wondering if Palin knows that the US spends millions of aid dollars trying to recruit and train community organizers in developing nations and are generally regarded as an important factor in democratic development!

OP--you forgot about the major Jewish presence--Lierberman. What an a**. Basically everyone there looks white, overweight, and generally in poor health.

yup. when she said her piece about the special needs parents I just about wanted to throw up. I REALLY don't need an absent mom try to tell ME that she understands. She has no clue. Her kid is 4 months old... there is a long road ahead of the family. Same would have been true had she been a man. Do not tell me you know our pain, unless you are THERE to live it yourself. Being on the road and having a staff take care of the baby doesn't count.

Her speech and Guliani's speech were nothing but a bunch of symbolisms that are supposed to throw voters out. But in reality symbols don't go very far. I wanted to hear something that was real.

Plus 5 black people they showed on the camera. Letterman joked about all the diversity at the convention ....... He said, "Wait, it's coming to me ... (pause) .... Joe Lieberman."

I figured it was past her bed time. She doesn't seem like a jovial person to start with.

I think she's an old-time moderate WASP Republican who found the whole spectacle distasteful. But maybe I'm projecting!

Biden is even on tv this am complimenting the performance (and noting the absence of any talk about the economy and health care ... but hey, that's his job) and this thread makes her and Republicans sound like the anti-Christ.

As an admitted Republican leaning independent, I am put off by the anti-Palin hysteria frankly. I'm looking for middle of the road pragmatism in my government... I'm the voter Obama is looking for - in 7 presidential elections I have voted Democrat 3 times - and his supporters are really turning me off to be honest.

This may be the straw that breaks the camel's back, but you are simply being silly. Obama's supporters are not the ones that will be running the running. We all love Jeff, but I doubt that he will make it into the Obama cabinet (assuming he wins). You really should find a better reason to support/not support a candidates besides what a bunch of random folks think about his/her opponent.

I am certain that you would have a similar response if i told you that I am turned off from McCain because I hate the way that Palin denigrates "community organizers".

I really think it depends on whose side you are on. Obama's speech to me was all McCain attack. Turned me off because though I had not yet decided my vote, at heart I am right leaning. I dn't think Obama's a bad guy but he came out swinging at his convention, and Sarah Palin had every right to do the same.

Damn. Then why am I wasting my time writing all these posts? If Palin is qualified to be VP, I should at least be in the running for Secretary of State. I've been out of the country at least 20 times and I grew up in Illinois which is next to Wisconsin which is near Canada so I have foreign policy experience and small town roots. I also received more votes running for college student government than Sarah Palin did running for mayor of Wasilla. According to Mike Huckabee, that's important (and unlike what Huck said, its true). That's it. This is obviously prejudice against me because I'm short. I'm switching my support to the short guy who will better represent my interests (e.g low urinals, no top shelves, and shoes smaller than size 7).
