Wait, I thought the Republicans would chip in for the cupcake, but only with the stipulation that nobody discuss the cupcake or the proper way to eat it with her.

jsteele wrote:Its actually not an easy question to answer since there are so many different trends in each party. Among Republicans, you have social conservatives, business conservatives, libertarians, nationalists, and blends of all of the above. Among Democrats, you have union workers, social progressives, the economic justice crowd, environmentalists, women's issues, and pro-choice.

The lines get blurred between these groups so that, for instance, a pro-choice, environmentalist can easily fit into either party.

You can also have "extreme/liberal" forms of each party.
You can also have "moderate" forms of each party.

To make things even grayer - you can be a social democrat, but a economic covservative.

The libertarian party or independent party are usually the in-between parties.

I confess that although I like to think that I think for myself, I have never strayed from the party of my parents. I wonder how party affiliation compares to religious affiliation with regard to acorns staying near their oaks. Any comments?

The democrats would say the little girl could still get a cupcake, everyone could share. Republicans would say, you didn't bring in your 50 cents so no cupcake for you!!

Good to know that you're raising another Marxist. Later, you can explain to your daughter how well communism worked out for other countries.

If you live in DC the Republicans will come from places like Wyoming to inform you that they have already chipped in for the cupcake. Then they will tell you how to eat it. If you live in places like Wyoming they will assume that you already know how to eat it.

I think we may have created a new course for PoliSci departments: Cupcakes 101.

I've been a Dem since before most of the people were born, I would guess, and I have not the slightest inclination to vote for McCain/Palin, but I will grant to them the compliment, back-handed though it may be, that McCain is no Bush and Palin is no Cheney. Jan 20, 2009 will be a great day for my country no matter how the election turns out!

That's what I keep thinking. Whatever happens, at least Bush and Cheney will be gone!

Sorry to have to inform you, but Marx's communism have never been implemented. No soviet leader ever claimed to have achieved communism. There are plenty of -isms around, but communism have never been accomplished.

Please, explain, what point?

That's right, communism doesn't work. It is a political idea which is impossible to implement. Although, from your comment, you'd certainly be willing to give it another try.

Whew, those cupcakes are starting to taste pretty lousy! Time to lighten up a bit?

To be fair, democracy's not exactly measuring up to its Platonic ideal, either.
