I've been to the owner's wine cellar--to say their wine selection is great would be the understatement of the century. And their by-the-glass selection is stellar.

And the cheese plate they have for dessert it TO DIE FOR (side entertaining note: they, like every other restaurant in DC, get their cheeses from Cowgirl Creamery).

All around exceptional, and a fun date night as it feels more like NYC than DC.

OP here. Thank you, Thank you, Thank you for all the wonderful suggestions. I'll let you know where we ended up but I have a great list now for hopefully, future date nights.
