The paperwork the PCP completes for the first visit is just a referral--not a pre authorization. They just complete it and it's done.

my nightmare has begun before it has even started. Does anyone know for sure how to get preauthorization for an INITIAL consult using MDIPA for federal employees? You definitely need more than just a referral.

Fed w/ MD IPA here....I had a referral from a PCP, brought it to my RE, and they did all the authorization. Additionally, I was scheduled to start my cycle like 4 days after I got my referral. My office got the authorization back dated.

I think if you're having a nightmare, it's likely your RE's office. I had no problem getting everything straightened out. Drugs were a different story - I had to pay out of pocket for a few things, but then got reimbursed by MD IPA very soon thereafter, as the drug approval and the cycle approval are apparently different departments.
