Unless a post has been deleted, it is in the database and we can read it. But, it is very hard to track people over a significant period of time. IP addresses change and everyone has several devices these days (e.g. home computer, work computer, smart phone, iPad, etc.). But, the biggest hurdle to looking at a bunch of messages is that it is extremely boring and time-consuming. I don't really have to track trouble-makers. Their messages get reported. There is one idiot troll here who uses proxy servers and other means to cloak his presence. But, he gets identified daily. Not by my efforts, but by people reporting him. I don't have to look for him at all and I don't spend any time doing so. |
heh, I just got a post deleted today...I think it was a mistake, as I've written much harsher stuff in the past. It is weird (but intriguing) that Big Brother has a name, and that name is jsteele--yet, we can talk to Big Brother and plead our case to him. |
Jeff is one of the most tolerant and balanced admins I've ever seen...
|
Fox news is calling! |
No, really. I've had my fair share of interaction with website admins and have been a moderator myself. The guy is definitely patient... even though I don't always agree with him ![]() |
I meant for Jeff, "fox news, fair and balanced" or something like that...
Which is funny cause Jeff is a lefty. |
LOL got it ![]() |
How about me? Close? |
This thread is weird...if you are close to being banned, why raise the red alert.
Jeff. Don't look at me! I'm hideous! Look away! Look away! |
Well, your entire law firm uses the same IP address. So, I'd have to ban the entire firm and then I'd probably get sued. But, someone from that address has caught my attention with some not-very-funny jokes about Indian names in one of the endless name threads. I get tired of those threads also, but you should just ignore them rather than disrupt them. |
I'm sure her law firm would be crushed if their employees were banned from the time suck that is DCUM. Oh and especially the employees who are posting racist comments from their computers. |
Thanks. I used to be, well, "a thorn in your side". I've tried to behave lately. Key word here is 'tried'. Keep up the good fight. |
Jeff, I fear for myself on the off-topic board today. I just want to cross the line in so many ways... Just wondering how far I can go before you ban me. Then again, I am at work, perhaps I should wait till I'm home.
On another note, this feels strangely like a Catholic confessional booth. Care to give me a penance? |
No way -- if many of the threads are to be believed, this board is way too "anti-Catholic" for that. |
It would be interesting to see how your and my definitions of "crossing the line" compare. What upsets me are posts that disrupt threads and posts that impolitely attack other posters. I am all for polite disagreement. Extra points for being funny about it. |
