Yorktown vs. McLean High School

There are a lot of shoddy homes going up all over Northern Virginia, in McLean as well, especially along Westmoreland street. BCN and Sagatov homes have an extensive portfolio of new luxury homes and estates in McLean and N Arlington--if you're into traditional styles like english tudor, "colonial" etc... Studio Crowley Hall has an impressive portfolio of modern homes--a new contemporary home in N Arlington's Ashton Heights comes to mind.

Despite all the new constuction, I still believe Arlington is most well known for its 1930s-era colonials and early 20th century Craftsman homes. In this way parts of Arlington resembles neighborhoods in DC like Chevy Chase, DC or AU Park, and remains popular among young couples leaving DC looking for similar neighborhoods with good public schools. Families are drawn to close-in Bethesda for similar reasons.

You're right about the area near Westmoreland, where ANV has been building some cheap-looking big houses (some of these houses, though, are in Falls Church, not McLean). At the moment, however, the quality seems to have gone down more recently in North Arlington, with many shoddy-looking houses going up that aren't as attractive as what was being built just five years ago in neighborhoods like Cherrydale and Lyon Village. The builders probably had to pay a hefty sum for the lots, and they're counting on people who want a short commute not really caring about the quality of the construction.

The Langley district does not share a border with the Yorktown district, but there are neighborhoods north of Route 123 west of the GW Parkway assigned to Langley that are close to Arlington neighborhoods assigned to Yorktown. The commute to DC from Langley Oaks isn't much longer than the commute from neighborhoods off Kirby Road assigned to McLean or from some North Arlington neighborhoods.

I just typed a Chain Br Rd rt 123 (east of the GW Parkway) address into the Frairfax schools' boundary locator and it is still Langley. But the border with Yorktown would be small. The point is that Langley is another good option for a close-in high school pyramid.

Would you put BCN into the shoddy category?? We're looking at them and have been impressed. Something we don't know??

There is no Langley/Yorktown border. There may be a very small area east of the GW Parkway on Chain Bridge Road in the Langley district and then you're in the McLean district, not the Yorktown district. McLean, on the other hand, has a long border with Yorktown.

The eastern part of the Langley district is indeed close-in, though that cannot be said for the entire Langley district, since it stretches all the way to the Loudoun County border.

Nope - they should all build such nice houses. I think some of the other builders are doing cheaper imitations of what they offer.
