I'll know when I'm having contractions, right?

This sounds like it could be the real deal....

I concur that you might be in early labor. Rest up and drink lots of water. Being dehydrated can cause contractions.

Congrats!

Sounds like it could be early contractions. They'll get worse and then you'll know what the PPs are talking about. I didn't know I was having contractions when I went in for induction at 41 weeks. Still didn't really take note until they got bad after the medicine.

Good luck! !!

I wouldn't have known if my water hadn't broken; actual contractions felt just like the BH ones I'd been having for the past couple months. My theory on this is that the better your baby's position, the tamer (and more BH-like) the actual contractions. My baby turned out to be in an excellent position so sharper contractions weren't needed to roll her around or anything. Hope everything is going (went) well!

Mine just felt like menstrual cramps for a long time...one big ache. In fact, I was hooked up to a monitor and the nurse commented "I know that was a big one" and I didn't know what she was talking about...it all felt just like one big cramp. They don't differentiate for quite a while.

agree with 6:18. I didn't know they were contractions. I was "crampy" all day long. by 10pm I knew but that was pretty far down the road. I even had an appointment that night with my MW at 8pm and she said "if they were contractions, you'd know..." imagine all of our surprise when I went from 6cm to 9cm in the 15 minutes it took to get to the hospital. ds was born 30 minutes later. i wanted little time at the hospital and I got it. this was for DC #1. For DC #2 I'll not wait it out as long! Good luck!!
