Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS)
I'd like to hear more about SACC. My dd has been in montessori school for three years and can read. I'm concerned that she won't learn anything in Kindergarten and that SACC is just play time? Am I wrong? |
http://www.fairfaxcounty.gov/ofc/SACCSchool.htm SACC Program Highlights 2010-2011 Fast Forward: What Lies Ahead? The 2010-2011 SACC school year program will be filled with opportunities for children to explore cutting-edge technology and futuristic creations while investigating trends in inventions, robotics and techno-art. Children will learn about past and present-day inventors and inventions, the history of robotics and the evolution of techno-art as they put their minds to work in The Design Lab. The Design Lab will also provide a place for children to put their imaginations to the test as they create products designed to make life easier and more fun. Children will also have the opportunity to display, demonstrate and market their inventions, perform techno-musical creations and showcase their art in The Exhibit Zone. The future is here in SACC as we “fast forward” to see what lies ahead! |
We've been at SACC at two different schools and our experienced varied quite a bit between the schools. At our former school, the SACC was great. They did science projects, sewing and art projects, lots of books for quiet reading time, etc. It was very organized and pretty quiet, except for gym and outdoor times. At our current school, the SACC is quite a bit less organized. It's very loud, the rooms are smaller so it feels more congested, and there was never the same quality of projects. My DC is still in morning SACC (to keep the "free" teacher work day coverage) but we switched to a different after care that works out better for her. |
I hate to break it to you but there are several kids in eery kindergarten class that can read. They all manage to learn something. There are lots of things to learn in kindergarten besides reading. My understanding is SACC is homework and playing. Some schools have extra curricular activities you can pay for after school (Mad Science, Young Rembrandts, etc.). |
