+1 This is how my kid did high school. Is now thriving at a T20. |
| So you have to write in an excuse for every tardy and absence? |
FCPS HS sucked the life out of my kid. Has why bother attitude after the first semester freshman year. Has lousy grades (becauee nobody really cares or come to class, his words). Lousy grades but 4s and 5s in 8 AP classes (Hes, we paid for the extras). Teachers are burnt out by the system. They could handle the environment if admin actually backed them and actually dealt with bad behavior instead of rewarding it. But that’s the way FCPS wants to handle things. |
| They have 9 minute classes and 7 minutes between classes so my HSer went to yoga class and skipped useless school |

As a system, FCPS is circling the drain. So glad DD just graduated and we are done with this failing school system. So who are you blaming (b/c it doesn’t look like you put any of that blame pie on you as parents)? Other parents? Teachers? School Admin? It is easy to blame others. What is YOUR solution then???? |
Turns out. They do call and ask where your kid is on the last day of you don’t provide an excuse. The kids went to an amusement park and I didn’t call the attendance line. But then they called me. |
This is by design. They are ‘teaching to the test.’ For K-8 the instruction is crammed in from October-April. The SOLs happen in early May and then school is effectively done. The teachers are checked out. |
So why should FCPS change? |
Even earlier. Our first SOL test was at the end of April. |
| This should be retitled the Vote Republican forum |
You just described the vast majority of high school age homeschooled kids. (Certainly all the ones I know.) |
This is a ridiculous reach. OMG. Just stop. |
| I’m not sure what school your kids attend, but mine had finals every day except the last day. 🤷♀️ |
I know. Nothing FCPS does will be good enough, and DCUM will continue to rail against “equity” and whatnot. While FCPS currently acknowledged the need to ensure more 5-day school weeks and adjust the calendar accordingly, DCUM will find another way to complain about it and attribute it to the evil “equity”. I heard some guy at work complaining that his child (who was taking world history) was learning about Africa and should instead be focused on history directly impacting the US. Really? We shouldn't learn about the world around us even if it doesn’t directly affect us? SMDH. |
