Me three! When I started it seemed cheesy but 9 months in I’m going 5+ days a week and stronger than I’ve been since having kids. Good mix of cardio and strength days. -46yo woman

I run either on my peloton or outside 5x a week about 3-5 miles. RTR Pilates 2x a week. Always aim for at least 5 miles of steps every day, 6 miles is even better. I’ve cut out all bread, pasta, rice and added sugar except for when I’m out for special occasions.

PP you're responding to. I agree that it is cheesy, but it’s a good workout. Both trainers and other attendees are very supportive. And there are attendees at all levels / body types, which helps make it less intimidating.

Another vote for Burn! Been going for over a year, 4-5 days a week.

Group personalized strength training 3x/wk and 2 conditioning classes per week works for me. I've been going to Underground Athlete for 9 years!

My favorite instructor is Rebecca Kennedy because she focuses so much on hypertrophy (muscle building) which is so important for us!

Rebecca is my favorite too! I love her programming (other than snatches, I hate those) and her energy and music.

I'm also 45 and lost 20 pounds last year and built muscle by tracking my food, eating at a small deficit, walking around 8k steps on average a day, and 3x peloton strength classes. It took discipline though, I had to make the exercise non-negotiable, even on days when I didn't want to workout.

Two things: 1. Just start. Many times when I didn't want to workout, I forced myself to just start. Often I ended up feeling great by the end and was always glad I made the choice to workout.
2. Find your maintenance calories. Too often I see women eat way too little trying to lose weight. There's so much research about how eating too little can backfire on losing weight (and keep you miserable!). I ate at a 200 calorie deficit and lost about .5-1 pound a week. Seems slow, but I have kept it off even when I wasn't tracking or working out for a few months. That's success to me.

Good luck OP! Come back and report and what's working or not for you!

I walk a lot (3-5 miles a day, but I live in DC and have walking commutes for school drop off and work, and then add in a couple errands to get to 3-5).

In the morning or evening I do maybe 15 minutes of floor exercises (like dead bug, bridges, etc).

Occasionally I do a YouTube yoga class (Adrian or Kassandra).

Swim laps a few times a week in the summer.

You are not going to slim down with Club Pilates, as much as I wish! I love reformer pilates but its more about core toning and strengthening but there is NO cardio which is needed for slimming down.

At our age you need cardio and heavy weights, with a balance of yoga or pilates for lengthening/stretching/mental aspects.

I started doing Pure Barre at 48 after working with a personal trainer for years. It was transformative for me, and ten injury-free years later I’m still going strong with it.

No exercise will have you "slim down" unless your diet supports it.

I started Orange Theory in 2021 and still love it. I'm 46 now.
