Does anyone have a link that confirms this?

It's on the JR2026 page as he was due to graduate. He was on the football team.

Wonder why Jeff locked the post on DC schools forum. This is not an off topic conversation in my opinion. It shouldn't be more visible.

There’s a parking lot with a ledge that overhangs Chesapeake St. there’s often kids up there smoking pot (we are neighborhood walkers with kids at JR) and police responded yesterday when a gun discharged. Kids were on the baseball field and a local preschool had its kids out a block away. MPD needs to be in the community more and patrolling these hot spots.

No one is going to lock up kids for smoking a little weed. It's probably beneficial since it would help them destress.

The gun that went off yesterday was on the ledge/parking lot with a bunch of kids around. That is also where the kids smoke pot. Given the known areas of trouble plus the number of (large) schools right there, The police could at least step up patrols.

Wilson's after school issue has been open and problematic for decades.

Guns don't go off. Someone pulls the trigger.

Councilmember Frumin's Statement on the Passing of Thursday’s Shooting Victim
From: Office of Councilmember Matt Frumin
Date: Sat, 09 May 2026 16:22:28 EDT
Dear neighbors,

Below is Councilmember Frumin's latest statement on the passing of Thursday’s shooting victim. The full statement is also on Councilmember Frumin's website: https://mattfruminward3.com/statement-passing-of-shooting-victim/.

"I am deeply saddened to share the heartbreaking news that the young man who was shot Thursday afternoon in Tenleytown has passed away as a result of his injuries. Any death at the hands of gun violence is a senseless tragedy and even more so when the victim is one so young. My heart goes out to his family, friends, and the entire community as we mourn this loss.

I visited the scene Thursday and have remained in communication with the MPD Second District Commander. While the investigation is ongoing, we are taking immediate steps to ensure our neighborhoods and our young people are protected.

I, along ANC 3E and Tenleytown Main Street, have urged MPD to maintain a heightened and more visible presence in Tenleytown, particularly during the high-traffic hours, and the department is deploying additional resources to the neighborhood. MPD is also working across partner agencies to identify and address any conflicts within the community.

Additionally, I have been in contact with local school leaders to support them in their response and ensure that young people are engaged to preempt further violence.

We must be clear: we cannot and will not tolerate violence in our community, particularly in an area traversed by thousands of children every day.
If you have any information that could assist in this investigation, please contact MPD at 202-727-9099 or text 50411.

We will continue to work together to keep our community safe and support one another through this incredibly difficult time."

This. Who was being shot at yesterday? Is there an ongoing issue between groups?

Ask any JR students for a list of known dealers on campus.
The deceased would have been on the list.
I am not saying the shooting was drug related.
Just an observation.

The narrative on the 2nd shooting from someone who observed it was interesting.
A young man running in socks across the FT. Reno fields. Running up the whole foods garage as he was being chases. Jumped out of the 2nd level garage and after landed was shot at.

This was not an gun going off. It was a person intentionally shooting at someone.

Last year there was an incident according to my kid where a bunch of kids entered JR through an open door and beat up Brady. Hopefully the police can connect some dots and at least question them. This situation is terrible. His poor family.

I would guess that all of the shootings in DC are not the result of accidental discharges.
