Agree you should visit. Especially look at the areas near Lynnbrook park. FCC is discussed as "walkable" but doesn't actually have sidewalks, so it may not be the vibe you're thinking. |
| Good luck finding a nice house under $1.5M in FCC or even Falls Church zoned for Marshall. |
Good grief, no. If Kensington or GP go zoned for WJ. |
|
| $1.5M will get you a SFH in Bethesda zoned to Walter Johnson. |
Ding ding we have a winner. Lose the walkability but the school zoning will make up for it. |
This is so funny to me because the W&L parents say they wouldn’t send their kids to Yorktown because of the serious bullying and hard drugs problem. |
Haha, that budget is going to be tough even for townhouse. The only two townhouses I can find with walkability in her budget. The few others are not worth considering https://www.redfin.com/VA/Arlington/2139-N-Pierce-Ct-22209/home/11248774 https://www.redfin.com/VA/Arlington/2170-21st-Ct-N-22201/home/11248992 |
OP wants good schools. |
It’s true about the hard drug problem, but isn’t it the case all around here, including the private schools? |
One of my children went to W&L, and the other went to YHS. I'd choose W&L hands-down over Yorktown. |
| We live in East Bethesda and love it— it’s got walkability, proximity to DC, and BCC was great for our kids. $1.5 M might a stretch but there should be some homes in that range. You could also look along East West Highway towards Silver Spring maybe. |

Another vote for the Woodson HS pyramid. Close enough to the Virginia Railway Express (free parking) if you have to commute downtown. VRE is more pleasant than the metro. At 1.5 M, you'd have choices
|
| North Arlington is the answer, but if you want a sfh you’re not going much for that budget |
PS I actually recommend 22205 - look at the Westover and Tara Leeway areas. This area is zoned for w-l high school but it is very good with a strong IB program. Good luck ! |
