The doctor would be in the position to know.

If they’re a healthy weight but say low muscle mass, a pill won't fix that. Focusing on exercise and diet is the way to go.

Unless there is an eating disorder diagnosed by a specialist, it’s downright controlling for pcp to deny a patient. That is NOT shared decision making. That’s a bad physician.

Physicians should not give patients medication just because a patient wants it. There is a standard of care for prescribing and if OP's doctor does not believe prescribing is within the standard of care, the physician is exactly right to not prescribe it. It's not controlling. It's good practice.
