How Common is it to not Rescind other Apps After ED Acceptance?

Ours is a Large public School so counseling department is overloaded or does not care. In this age, where stress levels are so high around admissions, seems a shame that kids (and their parents) do this. Common app should add a feature that automatically lets other colleges know that you have been accepted to your ED choice to break this trends

If common app added such feature, it would be an easy target for politicians, and get it banned for public universities, to begin with.

In theory, the high schools would not have sent the transcripts to the other schools if they were admitted ED in the fall.

Not true if you EA at the same time.

This would be so easy to put in place, too.

You can't do this because of the financial aspect. I think they need to make the deposit much bigger so that families take it seriously. It might not stop the wealthiest but it would stop a lot of people.

Our HS counselors require it.

OP here. My kids are at a large public in NoVa. The friends accepted in ED are full pay, and have older siblings that were denied ED. It seems very tone deaf on part of the kids to disclose this info, but much worse to hear about the extra admissions by their parents. Add to that, the parents, up to this point, seemed quite reasonable. I guess the college admission ratrace brings the worse out of some.

how dare they make a mockery of the exclusive ED process meant for the high income full pay!

Some kids anonymously report these kids to various admissions offices with dummy gmail addresses.

I dont know how high schools can pull the other apps. They "require" it, but how do they know.

We're at a private school, got in ED, had to withdraw one app and let go of a international admit.

But I had lunch with another mom from another private school who was saying how much merit aid other schools are handing her kid. I said, but he's in BC early decision - didn't he withdraw the other apps? she said, oh, we're just too curious!

I mean, that private school couldn't prevent it. Plus it makes me not like her a little.

That’s your take? How about screwing over their classmates who are still awaiting acceptances?

RD schools require mid-year reports sent from the high school, how do these ED rules-ignorers get around this?

Those that are “oh, we’re just too curious” really don’t care about getting rescinded? Or does that not really ever end up happening.

This is wild. My child did ED, got in, and immediately pulled all her other apps. She put a lot of work into all her applications, and was no doubt very wistful about not knowing how those would have turned out, but that is what you sign up for when you ED as a full pay student!!

A lot of these kids apply EA, so they get their acceptances earlier. No need to send in extra transcripts.

In real life or in the paranoid world of DCUM?

This is why we can't have nice things.

Honestly, the universities talk to each other. Not even about ED. A friend worked in admission office at an Ivy and it is common to talk to the others.

I know of someone who did similar for grad school (but after accepting two programs but deferring one, which is a no/no). The person talked about it online, both admission teams talked to confirm and said person then had offers at both programs rescinded. This happened years ago. Not worth it.
