I’m not sure there would have been as much growth using the CES ELA curriculum. We compare it with CKLA often at play dates. My kid gets way more experience reading informational texts and writing g that demonstrates comprehension. CES seems to be more novel studies kind of thing. And I don’t trust any curriculum that MCPS wrote themselves!

Not sure who you are speaking with, but my DC is in a regional CES and does one novel study a quarter. In addition they are reading a variety of texts including many informational texts. They are learning to annotate as they read and write using citations from various texts to support their thinking. I think CKLA is also a great curriculum, especially when compared to benchmark, but the CES program and the texts it uses definitely provides more rigor than CKLA alone does.
