. They can not delay every day there is melting! Roads were not worse thus morning. |
| Kids should be in school, on-time. The piles aren’t going anywhere anytime soon. We can’t have 2-hour delays indefinitely. It’s ridiculous. Some elementary schools have start regular times of 9:25am. 11:25 is just too late. |
As a general comment oh my gosh I really detest the 11:25 start time in ES when there’s a delay. It’s so late. I have a kid who is up at 5am daily. I love the idea of a short day but it’s all the wrong hours. |
What does that have to do with figuring out the safest time to start school? |
It doesn’t. That’s why I prefaced my comment with “as a general comment” responding to PP about how late it is for these elementaries. |
| MCPS just called Code Green - Everything is open for regular hours on 2/5. |
| We are going to be on time. |

MCPS school timings are messed up. Elementary kids go to school too late in the day and High School starts way too early |
Just because your leafy neighborhood was shoveled in the first hour of the storm and several times last week doesn't mean all MCPS students neighborhoods were. There are many buses that can not get into the streets where there are bus stops. Unsurprisingly those areas were not shovled early on and some are apartments. There have been delays of buses getting to school. Without a two hour delayed start, those buses will take even longer in the especially frigid temps. Once again, they caved to make this call. |
There's always a petition circulating to get them to change high school start time..move it to at least 8am or away ES start times with HS. |
|
| They should change to a two hour delay and change it fast. It is going to be very cold Thurs morning. Snow mounds around high schools too causing traffic and back ups. Delay the start time for a safer arrival. Buses need time! |
Look again. It's not that cold and there isn't much of a temperature change between 7:00 and 9:00AM anyway. |
I have teens, and yes, that would drive me nuts. MCPS lacks sufficient buses to drive everyone to school at the same time, but when there's a 2 hr delay, they should really start everyone at the same time. High schoolers start their day at 9:45am when there's a 2 hr delay. Which is practically the normal time for elementary, right? All we want is avoid having kids wait in the predawn hours for their buses.
