What about Tuesday?

Not to mention the students with disabilities that need to be able to roll down the street and into busses. MCPS runs a ton of disability programs and must provide service to those students. This is probably them covering their backsides since they were just in litigation a summer or two ago regarding students with disabilities.

School buses should run their routes tomorrow and show how impeded they are. I watched a regular bus struggle near Arcola.

MCPS gives perfectly rational reasons for closing, but the problem is, none of the reasons will be resolved this week.

I had a kid with disabilities who needed door-to-door transportation (now in college), so I get the concerns!!! But frankly, we can't close an entire system for the needs of the few.

Given it's not rational to close for Monday, I have no idea what MCPS is going to do for Tuesday.

Agree. It is nonsensical, but mcps will be closed tomorrow. They've dug themselves into a hole.

Are they opening for teachers? It says “staff”. Any place I have taught there has been a distinction between “faculty” and “staff”. Is that not true in MCPS?

Staff includes everyone: teachers, admins, and building services.

I don’t see how anything changes between Mon and Tues unless the county itself removed snow from sidewalks. I think closed Tuesday too.

They are NOT opening for teachers on Monday. Staff do not report on regular non instructional days. Our principal said that only admin staff report tomorrow.

The message on the MCPS website does say grades are due tomorrow

Agree but I think they open Tuesday because the area was split on closure decisions, which increases pressure on MCPS to open. That said there are some real issues to solve, like the buses, and I’m not quite sure how this plays out.

Is that specific to MCPS because it would be unusual for education but MCPS often does unusual things

That is incorrect. You're likely to get another email later tonight. Teachers need to report to schools tomorrow like a professional day.

The County Council member for your district. Know what district you reisde in and contact him/her.

So true boo

I posted on the other thread about taking the ride on bus and not being able to get off the bus at the stops near my house and then not being able to cross at either end of the block.

Today a path had been shoveled from the stop nearest my house to the street, and the bus stop is being clear.

That seems promising. I agree that buses need to drive their route and make notes as to where things are impassable and where it is unsafe, and recommendations for solutions.

This is something that they could have started earlier, and I am not sure it could be completed by Tuesday but it would be a good place to start.

The first two reasons they far are regular bus riders and walkers. This is not just about students with disabilities.

If my principal says stay home then I am staying home. What's Dr Taylor going to do? Go room to room and check desks?
