Getting to know Mundo Verde campuses outside open house

Nothing at MV8 until maybe 3rd where kids had I think 30 or 40 minutes of individualized instruction time on some adaptable program.

It’s definitely not screen centered at all.

Is the plan for PK at MV8 still to be located at Cook this year because of construction? Or is that over?

In 10 years someone will still share a link to this article as though it is still relevant. Let it go.

It’s worth it to get to DCI, which is a really great school with a beautiful campus.

You can have both! We had a great experience at MV and now at DCI.

Going back post Covid was rough and we had some turnover but that was everywhere and expected.

I took the Calle Ocho tour yesterday. What are the odds that nice new PK building is actually done by August? Does anyone have any inside info on this?

Also, what is the deal with neither MV location having a true playground, even with this renovation? Genuinely confused why neither school has prioritized putting in a playground.

Did anyone say anything about a parent-organized bus?

Curious about this too. They say they value outdoor time (and I see MV kids outside at Turkey Thicket and EYA playgrounds often), so its curious that they don't put prioritize an onsite playground.

The 2 playgrounds above, kids can easily walk to. It’s close and both are great. Why spend the money on another playground when there is 2 so close and accessible?

From the link, they are prioritizing outdoor learning classroom and expanding the community garden which I think is pretty great. Imagine being able to have actual classrooms outside and teach lessons there. Or doing community meetings outside or art class outside. Their gardening program is also great. My kid learned to plant, harvest, toil and they incorporate cooking in their specials. Kids make lots of yummy stuff and they love it.

They might not have what you think of a playground but they are going to have nature center play spaces.

Also their new in house kitchen is amazing. The lunch is really good and lots of kids told their parents they wanted to buy lunch. This was a total game changer for some families I know with both working parents not having to make lunch in am and feeling good that their kid was getting a delicious meal.

The expanded community garden is going to make that even better if they plan to use what they harvest in the kitchen.

What does MV Cook do about playgrounds? Are all recesses just in the mulch patch outside? Or do they walk to other playgrounds?

They walk to NY Ave or FL Ave depending on age.
They have staff scout it out ahead of the first recess time to check for sketchy activity. I think I'm my children's 5 years at the school they skipped the park a couple times for that, very very rarely.
If you're okay with some aspects of urban life, it's actually not as bad as I had feared.

The younger kids go to Florida Ave and the bigger ones to NY Ave? Does this include preK?
