Outstanding but not the best. Several MCPS schools have better acceptances. |
Whitman has excellent college admissions, but that information is not that useful at the level of an individual child. Kids at Whitman have incredible advantages, including but not limited to generally being full-pay, potential legacy status at elite colleges, high level external test and extracurricular coaching, etc. So unless OP also has those advantages, it doesn't really tell you anything about how their child will fare and there's no real way to disaggregate for it. Bottom line - it is impossible to know whether Whitman itself has anything to do with the fact that privilege begets privilege. |
| Maret is really hard to get into. I hardly know anyone who has gotten in. I would apply first and see if you get in. |
| NP. Thanks to all for the insight on BHES. We know BHES is excellent. What about Wood Acres? We are considering a similar decision as OP. |
| Op here- we live in a Blair cluster right now and in a k-8 private and trying to figure out if we move to Bethesda or try to get into a school, like maret, that would go through 12th. Curious for feedback about the social scene and what it might be like to join in middle school after not having gone to one of the feeder elementary schools. |
| Take a look at the “Mad at the Board” thread on the private school forum. It’s very active right now. |
Do you have even one link to prove that? If so, please post it, if not, just crawl back under your rock. |
How does your K-8 do at high school placement? Better ones will be able to help guide you on how successful they are at placing at schools like Maret, and also will guide you (in upper years) on whether particular schools are a good fit for your child. |
The DMV is quite a transient population. There are some kids who will be in school with friends from K-12 regardless, but there are many others who come and go, either abroad, to another state of just switching between private and public schools. |
So you don't have any links. Congratulations. I've also reported you for a personal attack. You need to learn the etiquette of DCUM |
Google is free. Can't take the heat? Stay out of the kitchen |
I don’t think joining in middle school would be a problem. Kids expand their friend circles then and meet kids from other elementary schools. |
I think you need to decide if you think MCPS will be suitable for your child, especially coming from whatever private you're currently enrolled in. We switched from MCPS to private for one kid and I am having a hard time seeing how DC will go back to MCPS, even if we moved to a W cluster (which is a possibility that's on the table). It's just not the right environment for them. Ultimately, ou know your child best. Visit the schools, talk to like-minded parents, and figure out which would be the best fit for your kid and your wallet. As for the social scene, I'm unfamiliar with Maret, but at our private the new kids fit in easily and I haven't heard of other issues from friends that send their kids to other privates (Holton, Landon, Bullis, St. Andrews). Kids are pulled in from all over these days... the feeder schools really apply in the lower grades. Once you get to MS and HS, all bets are off and it's very competitive at all of the schools. |
You were already deleted once, try for a ban. Go on. |
Huh??? Losing your mind? Go ahead LOL |
