It seems to be a cult, or is that an exaggeration?

Although I understand your perspective, it is a bit too extreme.

Notre Dame is a Catholic school with Catholic values practiced daily. Great for elementary school & for high school, but a little too much for one's college years. Great school for one who craves a Catholic environment 24/7, but too restrictive for those who wish to exercise adult freedom(s) during their college years.

FWIW Definitely less restrictive than Mormon BYU.

They just reaffirmed how hateful and closed minded they really are:

Not hateful but you clearlt are. They are a Catholic institution and its great to see that they hold to those principles. Plenty of other hospitals willing to do such elective procedures on genetically true XX and XY individuals.

Please spare me the attack on religion. The fundamental question is: Is ND as academically strong as it markets itself to be?

Wow, this is a stretch. Do you hate all Muslims too? What does this have to do with Notre Dame?

This must be the same anti-Christian bigot who posts the same article on other threads involving religion. So much sorrow and hate in their heart. We will pray for them.

I always thought ND was just a football school full of corn fed farmer’s boys.

US News is a farce. Hence why the question is being asked, is it as good as it is marketed?

I mean for all the majors they offer, one is in the Top 10 at 10 per USNWR.

Yes, but mostly because of its alumni network ambit being a throwback in term of culture. The alumni love notre dame and have a national presence with an instant connection with other alumni. It’s similar to the service academies and ivies in that regard.

Yes, because alumni at other institutions don't love their schools and don't have connections with other alumni that have graduated from those schools? I mean how is this even measurable? It's anecdotal.
